Researchers advise against energy drinks
Tired, not alert
Sitting behind the wheel for hours on end makes many drivers crave for what are called energy drinks. They are however, not a suitable way to combat fatigue. This is the outcome of a study undertaken by the Würzburg University’s Institute of Psychology.
Trials with test drivers showed that small amounts of caffeine may help slow the rate at which tiredness sets in. However, in combination with the dextrose contained in most energy drinks, that positive effect is negated – all the more with increased dextrose levels. Researchers therefore recommend taking a short break to combat fatigue instead of resorting to an energy drink.
